N ENLARGER is best used mounted on usually suffice for the majority of prints the photographer is called on to make - but, there may be times when the average photographer must make larger-than-average prints.
Most likely, if the photographer uses the smaller formats for most of his work, he occasionally will have to make larger-than-usual prints - or, to make normal-sized enlargements from a small portion of his negatives. There are several ways to mount an enlarger so that larger-than-normal blowups can be made.
Most enlargers have a provision for projecting the negative horizontally onto a wall. But, this presents some problems which can be avoided through the use of other methods of enlarger mounting. One of the annoying problems encountered in projecting prints on the wall is that of finding or making the right kind of easel - and, in making certain that the easel is parallel with the negative plane. It also must be in the center of the field of the illumination to prevent uneven exposures. This type of arrangement, as mentioned foregoing, also requires the acquisition of a second enlarging easel and this is a needless expense.
Wall projection takes space
Since most semi-professional/advanced a- mateur darkrooms are small, the space required for wall projection may be too valuable to spare. For optimum utilization of space, cabinets may
