Making Glamour Portraits
IF SOMEONE were to ask what the most important factor is in a por trait , the answer mostly is expression . This is what everyone looks for ; this is what makes the person decide on one picture over another from the same sitting . Second in importance would be technique : Lighting , print quality , sharpness , retouching .
In making a glamour portrait - as in making a portrait of anyone - the photographer must not only be a tech nician but must have the ability to put a person into a relaxed mood so that their best features will show through with good expression . Some photog raphers can master the photo tech nique but have a more difficult time
in putting their subjects at ease before the camera .
Perhaps much of this depends on the photographer's background ; his ability to talk to people and under stand them . He should know how it feels to be on the other side of the camera .
It takes time for a person to get used to any mechanical device used to record them , be it a camera or tape
recorder . Only after several minutes does the person feel relaxed enough to be himself .
