Dar al Mussawir cordially invites you to the opening of the exhibition “Under the Rug” by the photographer Matthieu Karam to commemorate the tragic event of the Beirut Post.
The opening of the event at Dar al Mussawir is on August 3rd, 2023 from 5:30 PM to 8:00 PM. The exhibition continues to welcome its visitors till August 11th daily and closes on Saturdays and Sundays.
About the exhibition :
In his first photo exhibition, “Under the Rug”, Matthieu Karam documents through a series of 19 black and white photographs the fallout from the Beirut Port Explosion on August 4th, 2020 in the Mar Mikhael, Gemmayzeh and Sursock neighbourhoods.Taken on lonely walks through debris and broken glass in the three months following the blast, this series of photos captures a nightmare that Beirut will hopefully never relive but should also never forget.
About the photographer:
Born in 1990 in Nice, France, Matthieu Karam is a Lebanese-French journalist and an emerging photographer. He is based in Beirut, and has been working for the Lebanese news outlet L’Orient-Le Jour since 2014. After graduating in 2013 with a master’s degree in international security from Sciences Po Paris, he returned to Lebanon and began capturing the capital’s vibrant street life. More recently, he has documented major events in Lebanon including the protests in 2019 and the Beirut port explosion in 2020.
يدعوكم دار المصور الى افتتاح معرض تصوير فوتوغرافي بعنوان "تجاهل" للمصور ماتيو كرم. يوثق ماثيو من خلال مجموعة من ١٩ صورة فوتوغرافية بالأبيض والأسود تداعيات انفجار مرفأ بيروت في ٤ آب ٢٠٢٠ في أحياء مار مخايل والجميزة وسرسق.
تجسد صور ماتيو التي التقاطها أثناء سيره وحيدًا بين الحطام والزجاج المكسور في الأشهر الثلاثة التي أعقبت الانفجار، كابوسًا نأمل ألا تستعيده بيروت أبدًا ولكن يجب ألا ننساه أبدًا.
افتتاح المعرض مساء الخميس٣ آب ٢٠٢٣ عند الساعة ٥:٣٠ حتى ٨ مساء في دار المصور. يستمر المعرض لغاية مساء الجمعة ١١ منه، يوميا من الساعة ١١ صباحا حتى ٧ مساء ما عدى نهاري السبت والأحد
نبذة عن ماتيو كرم
ماتيو كرم هو صحفي لبناني-فرنسي ومصور فوتوغرافي ولد في نيس، فرنسا عام ١٩٩٠. يقيم ماثيو حاليا في بيروت ويعمل في جريدة L’Orient-Le Jour منذ عام ٢٠١٤. بعد تخرجه في عام ٢٠١٣ بدرجة الماجستير في الأمن الدولي من Science Po Paris، عاد إلى لبنان وبدأ في تصوير حياة الشارع النابضة بالحياة في العاصمة. وفي الآونة الأخيرة، وثّق الأحداث الكبرى في لبنان بما في ذلك الاحتجاجات عام ٢٠١٩ وانفجار ميناء بيروت في عام ٢٠٢٠.
